Summary
“CORPLAY – Counter Radicalization, PLAY sport” is a European Program which focused on strengthening the role of sports in preventing the radicalization of young people, developing an innovative approach in depth to address intolerance, xenophobia and discrimination, while increasing the participation of young people in sports. According to a report by the European Union’s Fundamental Rights Organization, racism, xenophobia and other forms of intolerance are causing problems at the European level, including at the amateur level.
The main objectives of the Project were to approach, identify and highlight the role of sport in both the processes of radicalization and radicalization. At the same time, special attention was paid to the development of learning and awareness tools for coaches, referees, technical advisors in the field of sports, physical education teachers and other stakeholders, while developing prospects for policy making, a new and innovative perspective and a framework for improving the capabilities of sports organizations in order to tackle violence and extremism and develop a society without exclusions.
The project involved the Erasmus + SPORT Large-scale Partnership, whose partners came from 5 different countries (Greece, Italy, Bulgaria, Turkey and Portugal) and covered a wide range of expertise and experience. The Collaborative Learning Platform has created a much more resilient community, where on the one hand sports organizations and young people and on the other hand local stakeholders are essentially collaborating in addressing current social challenges, including sports.
